The targeted area of the ERASMUS 'Polifonia'
Thematic Network for Music is
professional music training in higher education. This sector
is not only
an important component of Europe's cultural heritage, but also
one facing
considerable challenges due to the Bologna Declaration rocess
and
significant changes in the music profession.
'Polifonia' will
address this
situation by initiating 2 action lines with 58 partners institutions
(professional training institutions, European associations
and employers
organisations in music):
§ 'Tuning Line': the development
of descriptions
of competencies for the 1st and 2nd study cycles and the connection
of
these competencies with ECTS, teaching and learning approaches,
internal
and external quality assurance processes and mobility issues. § 'Research
Line': mapping exercises of a) education levels in music before
and after
higher education and b) the music profession, including information
on
rare competencies and new trends. Research findings will support
developments in the 'Tuning Line'.
The action lines will be
implemented by
working groups (including students) and a substantial research
effort
making use of desk research and a network of national correspondents
in 30
European countries. 'Polifonia' will present results to a wide
target
audience through newsletters, a website, various documents
and several
seminars over a 3-year period.
